Run Social Media on Autopilot with OpenClaw (Setup Guide)

OpenClaw can run your social media posting from a chat thread: send it one message to connect the PostAxis MCP server, approve access in your browser, and it can plan, schedule and check posts across eight networks on a routine you set. The whole setup takes about a minute.

This is for people who already live in WhatsApp, Telegram or Slack with their OpenClaw agent and want "keep the calendar full" to be one of its standing jobs.

What you can automate with OpenClaw

OpenClaw is an always-on personal agent that runs on its own gateway and takes requests from the chat apps you already use. That changes what "automation" means. You aren't building a workflow; you're handing a colleague a recurring job and checking in by message.

Jobs that suit it well:

  • The Monday plan. Every Monday morning it reads your blog or changelog, writes the week's posts for X and LinkedIn and schedules them.
  • A daily drip. One product tip on your Telegram channel at 18:00, every day, without you thinking about it.
  • The Friday report. Which posts went out this week, which failed and what it did about it.
  • Right-now posts. "The outage is fixed, tell people" from your phone, published to Telegram and Facebook in one go.
  • A month at a time. A 30-day calendar for X, LinkedIn and Threads, validated and sent to you for approval before it's scheduled.

Once a post is scheduled, PostAxis publishes it at the set time. OpenClaw only needs to be running when it creates or changes posts, so a gateway restart at 3 a.m. doesn't cost you a post.

What you need

  • A PostAxis account. Sign up at app.postaxis.io; every plan includes MCP access and starts with a 7-day free trial.
  • Your social accounts connected in PostAxis under Accounts.
  • A running OpenClaw agent you can message from a chat app.
  • Only if your OpenClaw runs headless with no browser to sign in from: the PostAxis API add-on, for an API key.

How to connect OpenClaw to PostAxis (step by step)

  1. Create your PostAxis account. Sign up at app.postaxis.io. OAuth sign-in for agents is included on every plan.
  2. Connect your social accounts. In PostAxis, open Accounts and connect Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads or Telegram. OpenClaw can only post to accounts connected here, and it never sees your social media passwords.
  3. Send the connect prompt. Message OpenClaw from any chat app it's connected to with this exact text, and confirm when it asks to add the server:
Connect to the PostAxis social media scheduler MCP server at https://postaxis.io/api/mcp
  1. Approve access. OpenClaw sends you a sign-in link. Open it, log in to PostAxis and click Approve.
  2. Check it works. Ask:
Which PostAxis accounts are connected?

It should reply with your social accounts. If you see them, you're done.

Running OpenClaw on a server with no browser? Skip the sign-in link and configure the server with an API key instead. Create one in PostAxis under Settings → API keys (it needs the API add-on and is shown only once), then add the PostAxis server to OpenClaw's MCP configuration with this header:

Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY

Where OpenClaw keeps its MCP configuration can change between versions, so check its docs for the current location.

5 workflows you can copy

Send these as normal chat messages. The first three are recurring; OpenClaw supports routines, so ask it to repeat the job and it will remember to run it.

The Monday content plan

The core autopilot job. Use it when you publish on a blog or changelog and want social to follow automatically.

Every Monday at 8:00 Europe/Amsterdam, read the posts published on
https://example.com/blog in the last 7 days and plan the week's social
posts: one per weekday on X and LinkedIn at 10:00 Europe/Amsterdam.
X gets a short hook and the link, LinkedIn gets 2 to 3 short paragraphs.
Validate first, then schedule, then send me the list here.

What OpenClaw does each Monday: list_accounts → get_platform_rules → create_posts_bulk with validate_only=true to check all five days without saving anything → the same call without validate_only to schedule. Each post targets both accounts with a per-account caption. You get something like: "Done for this week: 5 posts scheduled at 10:00, Monday to Friday, on X and LinkedIn. I'll plan next week on Monday."

A daily tip on your Telegram channel

Good for product channels that should feel alive without a person writing every day.

Keep our Telegram channel posting once a day at 18:00 Europe/Kyiv with
one practical product tip. Never repeat a tip; check what's already
scheduled or published before writing new ones. Keep each under 600
characters. Schedule a week at a time, every Sunday.

What it does: list_posts to see recent and upcoming tips, then create_posts_bulk for the next seven days. Telegram allows 4,096 characters for text posts, but tighter posts read better in a channel.

The Friday failure report

Autopilot needs a dashboard light. This is it.

Every Friday at 17:00 America/New_York, tell me which posts published
this week and which failed on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. For each
failure, give me the reason in one line. Reschedule failures for
tomorrow at 11:00 unless the problem is the media; flag those instead.

What it does: list_posts by date range and status, get_post on each failed one to read the per-network status, update_post to reschedule the fixable ones.

Post an update right now, from your phone

Not every job is scheduled. When something happens, OpenClaw can publish immediately.

The outage is fixed. Post a short all-clear to our Telegram channel and
Facebook page now: what happened, that it's resolved, and that no data
was lost. Confirm when both are up.

What it does: a single create_post with publish set to now, targeting both accounts. Then get_post to confirm the per-network status before it replies. Publishing now works one post at a time; bulk calls only schedule or save drafts.

A 30-day calendar, approved by you

For the start of a quarter or a launch month.

Plan 30 days of posts for X, LinkedIn and Threads about our product,
starting the 1st, one per day at 10:00 Europe/London. Validate them all,
send me the calendar as a list here, and schedule only after I reply OK.

What it does: one create_posts_bulk with validate_only=true (up to 50 posts fit in one call), a message to you with the plan, then the real call after your OK.

Network limits OpenClaw works within

PostAxis rejects posts that break a network's rules before saving them, so your agent finds out at planning time, not at 10:00 on the day.

NetworkCaption limitMedia rules
X (Twitter)280 charactersOptional; up to 4 images or one video
LinkedIn3,000 charactersOptional; up to 9 images or one video
Threads500 charactersOptional; up to 10 images or one video
Telegram4,096 characters, or 1,024 with mediaOptional; up to 10 images or one video
Facebook63,206 charactersPages only; up to 10 images or one video
Instagram2,200 charactersMedia required; 1 to 10 images or one video

Videos must be MP4 or MOV, 3 to 300 seconds long. Images and video can't be mixed in one post.

Tips for better posts

  • Validate first in every routine. Write "validate first" into recurring prompts. A routine that runs unattended should never skip the check.
  • Put the timezone in the routine itself. "Every Monday at 8:00 Europe/Amsterdam". If you travel, the routine shouldn't.
  • Start with drafts. For the first two or three weeks, end routines with "save as drafts" instead of "schedule". Review them under Drafts in PostAxis, and switch to scheduling once you trust the output.
  • Tell it your voice once. Give OpenClaw a short brand brief (tone, words you never use, hashtag rules) and ask it to remember it for all social posts.
  • Let it watch the cap for you. PostAxis allows up to 300 posts per 24 hours per account through MCP. That's far above any sane schedule, which is the point: it stops a loop gone wrong, not your normal routine.
  • Point it at real sources. Your blog URL, changelog or RSS feed gives it facts to post about. Without them it writes generic filler.

Troubleshooting

OpenClaw runs on a server with no browser. Use an API key (needs the API add-on) and add the server with the header Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY.

It says no accounts are connected. Connect at least one social account under Accounts in PostAxis. With several workspaces, name the one to use: "use my Acme workspace".

401 Unauthorized or "sign in again". The sign-in expired or was revoked. Send the connect prompt again to get a fresh sign-in link, or check your API key is still active under Settings → API keys.

Posts land at the wrong hour. Add an explicit timezone to the routine, like "10:00 Europe/Berlin". Without one, the agent uses the timezone it was told or UTC.

You want it to stop posting. In PostAxis open Settings → API keys and revoke OpenClaw under Connected agents (or revoke its API key). It loses access immediately; delete any remaining scheduled posts from the calendar if needed.

FAQ

Can OpenClaw post to social media automatically?

Yes. With PostAxis connected it can draft, schedule or publish posts on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, X, LinkedIn, Facebook Pages, Threads and Telegram channels, on request or as a recurring routine.

Do posts go out if OpenClaw is offline?

Yes. Once a post is scheduled, PostAxis publishes it at the set time. OpenClaw only needs to be running when it creates or changes posts.

Is it safe to let an agent post on its own?

You stay in control. Everything appears in your PostAxis calendar, drafts can be reviewed first, every post is checked against network rules before saving, and you can revoke the agent at any time. Limits of 300 posts a day and 50 per batch protect your accounts.

Does OpenClaw see my social media passwords?

No. You connect your social accounts in PostAxis, and OpenClaw signs in to PostAxis with OAuth (or an API key). It never handles your network logins.

How much does it cost?

MCP access with OAuth is included in every PostAxis plan, and every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. You only need the API add-on if you run OpenClaw headless with an API key.

Get the connect prompt from the OpenClaw agent page, and see every tool in the PostAxis MCP reference. If you're comparing agents, the complete guide to AI agents for social media covers the options, and automating social media with Hermes Agent shows an open-source alternative.
