Tips
- Use 4:5 aspect ratio for best Instagram compatibility.
- Use high-resolution images (at least 1080px per tile width).
- Keep important content away from split lines.
- Consider your feed’s overall aesthetic.
- Post tiles in the correct order (right-to-left, bottom-to-top for newest-first feeds).
- Preview your grid before posting.
- Test different background colors for letterboxed images.
- Higher resolution = sharper tiles after the split.
Instagram Grid Maker: questions
What is an Instagram grid maker?
An Instagram grid maker splits one large image into multiple posts so they form a single visual on your Instagram profile grid. PostAxis’s free tool does this in the browser — no signup required.
How do I split a photo into a 3x3 grid?
Upload your image, select 3x3, pick a background if needed, then download all nine tiles. Post them in the order shown so the puzzle lines up on your profile.
Can I pick layouts other than 3x3?
Yes. Choose 3x1, 3x2, 3x3, 3x4, 3x5, or 3x6. Every individual piece stays at the 4:5 Instagram portrait ratio.
Is it really free?
Yes. The Instagram Grid Maker is 100% free, runs in your browser, and never adds watermarks.
Will the split images lose quality?
We export PNG tiles from your original upload. Start with a high-resolution source for the sharpest results — Instagram may still compress on upload.
Why is there an upload size limit?
Large files slow down browser processing. Keep uploads under 8MB for a smooth split; resize very large photos first if needed.
Can I preview before I download?
Yes. The live preview shows how tiles are cut before you download anything.
How do I keep the grid seamless after posting?
Post tiles in the numbered order, don’t crop again in Instagram, and avoid filters that differ per tile. Post relatively close together so the grid doesn’t get interrupted.
Which file types work?
JPG, PNG, and WebP are supported.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The tool works on mobile browsers. For the largest files, a desktop browser can feel snappier.
Can I download every tile in one click?
Yes. Use Download all to save every grid piece as separate PNG files.
