How to Schedule Social Media Posts with ChatGPT (2026 Guide)
You can schedule social media posts with ChatGPT by adding PostAxis as a custom connector: ChatGPT writes the copy, PostAxis checks it against each network's rules and schedules it to the accounts you already connected. Setup takes about two minutes, needs no API key and nothing to install. This guide is for anyone who already drafts posts in ChatGPT and is tired of copying them into a scheduler by hand.
What you can automate with ChatGPT
ChatGPT is where a lot of people already think out loud about launches and announcements. With PostAxis connected, the same chat can finish the job:
- Launch announcements written once and adapted per network: a tight line for X, a short story for LinkedIn, the full details for Telegram.
- Repurposing a blog post, changelog or meeting note into a set of scheduled posts.
- Filling an empty week with one post a day, shown to you as a list before anything is saved.
- Calendar housekeeping: "what goes out this week?", "move Saturday's post to Monday", "keep that one as a draft".
- Urgent updates posted right away, such as an outage all-clear on Telegram and Facebook.
What you need
- A PostAxis account. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial and includes MCP access with OAuth sign-in.
- At least one social account connected under Accounts in PostAxis (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads or Telegram).
- A ChatGPT plan that supports custom connectors in Developer mode. On Business and Enterprise workspaces an admin may need to allow them.
- No API key. ChatGPT signs in with OAuth.
How to connect ChatGPT to PostAxis (step by step)
- Create your PostAxis account. Sign up at app.postaxis.io.
- Connect your social accounts. Open Accounts in PostAxis and connect the networks you want to post to. ChatGPT can only post to accounts connected here, and it never sees their passwords.
- Turn on Developer mode. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode. Custom connectors only appear when it is on. Menu names in ChatGPT change from time to time, so if you do not see this exact path, look for the connectors or apps section of Settings.
- Create the PostAxis connector. Back in Apps & Connectors, click Create. Name it PostAxis, paste the MCP URL, set Authentication to OAuth, tick "I trust this application" and click Create.

- Sign in and approve. ChatGPT opens the PostAxis sign-in page. Log in and click Approve. You return to ChatGPT with the connector connected.
- Turn it on in a chat. Start a new chat, click + → More → Developer mode and enable PostAxis.
- Check it works. Ask:
Which accounts do I have connected in PostAxis?
ChatGPT calls list_accounts and lists your accounts by network. If it does, you are ready. ChatGPT asks before running tools that create or change posts, so nothing gets scheduled from this test.
4 workflows you can copy
Turn a shipped feature into launch posts
Use this on release day, when you know what shipped and want it out tomorrow morning without writing three versions yourself.
We shipped dark mode today. It follows the system setting, has a manual toggle
in Settings → Appearance, and works on web and mobile.
Write it up for X (one punchy line, max 240 characters, no hashtags) and
LinkedIn (3 short paragraphs, end with a question). Schedule both for
tomorrow 9:00 Europe/Berlin. Show me the copy before you schedule.
ChatGPT calls list_accounts to find your X and LinkedIn accounts, get_platform_rules to confirm the 280 and 3,000 character limits, shows you both versions, then calls create_post once with a caption per account. You get something like: "Scheduled one post for 9:00 tomorrow (Europe/Berlin): 214 characters on X, 3 paragraphs on LinkedIn."
Repurpose a blog post into a week of posts
Good when you have one long piece of content and want it to work for more than a day. Paste the article or its text into the chat first.
Here's our latest blog post (pasted below). Pull out 5 separate ideas from it
and turn each into a post for LinkedIn and Threads. Spread them Monday to
Friday next week at 10:00 America/New_York. Threads versions under 450
characters. Validate everything first and show me the list as a table.
[paste article]
ChatGPT drafts ten captions (five posts, two accounts each), then calls create_posts_bulk with validate_only=true. PostAxis checks every caption and saves nothing. ChatGPT shows you a table of dates and copy; once you reply "looks good", it runs the same call for real.
Put a product photo out tonight
For quick visual posts when the image is already online, for example on your website or a public cloud link.
Here's today's product shot: https://example.com/images/mug-launch.jpg
Post it to Instagram and Threads at 18:00 Europe/London tonight.
Two-line caption, warm and simple, no more than three hashtags.
ChatGPT calls upload_media_from_url to pull the image into your PostAxis media library, checks the Instagram rules (Instagram needs at least one image and a professional account), then schedules one post to both accounts with create_post. If the photo is only on your computer, ask for an upload link instead: ChatGPT calls create_upload_link and gives you a one-time link to upload the file.
Review and tidy next week
Use this on Friday afternoon to check the calendar before the weekend.
What do I have scheduled next week? Show it by day.
Move anything on Saturday to Monday 9:00 Europe/Berlin. Then show me the
full text of the Wednesday LinkedIn post and make it less salesy.
ChatGPT calls list_posts for the date range and summarises it, uses update_post to move the Saturday posts, then get_post to fetch the Wednesday post and update_post again with the rewritten text. It asks before each change, so you can say no to any of them.
Network limits ChatGPT works within
ChatGPT does not have to memorise these: it can call get_platform_rules at any time. But it helps to know them when you write prompts.
| Network | Caption limit | Media rules |
|---|---|---|
| X (Twitter) | 280 | Optional; up to 4 images or a video |
| 3,000 | Optional; up to 9 images or a video | |
| Threads | 500 | Optional; up to 10 images or a video |
| 2,200 | Required: 1–10 images or one video (Reel); professional account | |
| Telegram | 4,096 (1,024 with media) | Optional; up to 10 images or a video |
| 63,206 | Pages only; up to 10 images or a video |
PostAxis checks every version against these rules before it saves anything. If ChatGPT writes a 300-character X post, PostAxis rejects it with an error that says what to change, and ChatGPT shortens it and tries again. Nothing half-broken ends up in your calendar.
Tips for better posts
- Put your brand voice in custom instructions. Write a short note once: who you are, who you write for, words you never use, emoji and hashtag rules. Add it to ChatGPT's custom instructions (or a project's instructions if you keep your social work in a project) so every chat starts with it.
- Validate first. For anything more than one post, add "validate first and show me the list". The bulk tool checks everything and saves nothing, which turns a risky batch into a reviewable plan.
- Say the timezone every time. "9:00 Europe/Berlin" removes all doubt. Without one, ChatGPT uses whatever timezone it was told or UTC.
- Ask for drafts when someone else needs to approve. "Save these as drafts" puts them under Drafts in PostAxis, where a teammate can edit and schedule them.
- Give real facts, not vibes. ChatGPT writes better launch posts when you paste the changelog, the price or the exact feature name. It cannot know what you shipped unless you tell it.
- Name the networks in one request. One post with a caption per account keeps everything grouped under one post ID, which makes later edits simpler.
Troubleshooting
- I can't find Create or Developer mode. Custom connectors depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings. On Business and Enterprise, an admin may need to allow custom connectors first.
- ChatGPT says no accounts are connected. Connect at least one account under Accounts in PostAxis. If you have several workspaces, say which one: "use my Acme workspace".
- 401 Unauthorized or "sign in again". The sign-in expired or was revoked. Reconnect the PostAxis connector in ChatGPT; it opens the sign-in page again.
- A post was rejected before saving. The error names the rule (caption length, media count, video format). Ask ChatGPT to fix it and retry.
- Posts landed at the wrong time. Add the timezone to your request and ask ChatGPT to update the affected posts with
update_post.
FAQ
Can ChatGPT schedule social media posts automatically?
Yes. Once PostAxis is connected as a custom connector, ChatGPT can create, schedule and edit posts in your PostAxis calendar from a normal chat. It asks before running tools that create or change posts, and PostAxis publishes them at the scheduled time.
Can ChatGPT post to Instagram?
Yes, to Instagram professional accounts, with media you already have. Instagram posts need 1 to 10 images or one video. ChatGPT can pass PostAxis a public link to the file, or get a one-time upload link for a file on your computer. PostAxis does not generate images.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
Custom connectors run in ChatGPT's Developer mode, which is available on the ChatGPT plans that support connectors. PostAxis itself works on every PostAxis plan, including the 7-day free trial.
Does ChatGPT see my social media passwords?
No. ChatGPT signs in to PostAxis with OAuth and only receives a token for PostAxis. Your social accounts stay connected inside PostAxis, and ChatGPT never sees their credentials. You can revoke ChatGPT at any time under Settings → API keys → Connected agents.
Is there a PostAxis app in the ChatGPT app directory?
Not yet. A one-click PostAxis app is coming to the ChatGPT app directory. Until then, the custom connector above uses the same OAuth sign-in and takes about two minutes.
Is ChatGPT the same as Codex for PostAxis?
Both use the same PostAxis MCP server. ChatGPT is the chat app; Codex is OpenAI's coding agent for the terminal and IDE. If you want to post release notes straight from your repo, see the Codex guide.
If you also use Claude, the Claude guide covers the same setup there, and the complete guide to AI agents for social media compares all 24 supported agents. For the short version of this setup, see the ChatGPT agent page, and the MCP reference lists every tool. Ready to try it? Start your 7-day free trial, connect an account and ask ChatGPT what it can post to.
